Spread Spectrum

Otherwise known as ‘carpet bomb’ or ‘subnet’ DDoS attacks, these target a range of addresses or entire subnets, rather than a single IP address. Attackers use their DDoS vector(s) of choice, but then distribute them over hundreds or even thousands of destination IP addresses. This enables them to evade traditional, or manual, approaches to mitigation, as the increase in traffic to any single IP address is much less significant and, hence, more difficult to detect.
