Chief Executive Officer
Carl Herberger, CEO of Corero Network Security, brings over 25 years of cybersecurity leadership experience. As an internationally recognized expert, he has held executive roles at top security firms including Radware, Evolve IP, Allied InfoSecurity, and most recently as Principal Security Consultant and virtual CISO. Carl is a sought-after speaker and thought leader who has appeared on major broadcast outlets including Fox Business, CNN, and Bloomberg. His insights on cyber threats and security solutions are frequently published in outlets like The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Hill.
Among his many achievements, Carl received the Technology Executive of the Year award in 2019 and helped establish the US Air Force’s first cyber warfare unit during his time as an intelligence officer. As CEO, he leverages his deep expertise across all facets of cybersecurity to lead our corporate strategy and help our customers manage risk and build resilient systems capable of withstanding today’s cyber threats.
As Chief Technology Officer, Ashley Stephenson leads the company’s global DDoS mitigation solution strategy. A seasoned executive with a proven track record in the technology industry, he brings a notable record, having co-founded or led several technology companies as Chairman or CEO. An IT industry executive and Internet technology entrepreneur, Stephenson has operating experience in the United States, Europe and Asia. As CTO he drives Corero’s global strategy, focusing on the company’s growth by capitalizing on its market leading real-time DDoS mitigation offerings and strong blue-chip customer base.
Previously, Stephenson was CEO of Reva Systems, acquired by ODIN, and Xedia Corporation, acquired by Lucent. He was awarded “CEO of the Year” by the Massachusetts Telecommunications Council for his work at Xedia Corp.
In recent years he has spent the majority of his time providing strategic advisory services on the evolution of the global IT market.
Stephenson began his career at IBM Research & Development in the United Kingdom. For several years he taught Entrepreneurship as an Adjunct Professor in the Babson College MBA program. Stephenson has served on the Board of Directors of many venture-backed startups and industry consortia. He is a graduate of Imperial College, London with a degree in Physics and an Associate of the Royal College of Science. He is the holder of several U.S. patents.
Tanya Alfonso is Corero’s Chief Revenue Officer. Tanya is responsible for managing our global sales function, covering all sales-related teams including Direct and Channel sales, Strategic Alliances, Sales Engineering, Sales Operations, Business Development and Professional Services.
Prior to joining Corero, Tanya’s previous roles include Imperva, a cybersecurity company, where she led the sales team for Western North America. She has also held a variety of executive roles in global technology and other corporations such as 247.ai, ADP, IBM, Lenovo and Monsanto. She holds an MBA in International Management from Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, Evanston, US and a BBA degree in Finance and Management Information Systems from McGill University, Montreal, Canada.
Phil joined Corero as CFO in November 2022, bringing over 15 years of finance and operational expertise to the Group. He is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered accountants. Phil joined Corero from Kambi Group plc, a Swedish-listed premium global sportsbook provider, working across the organisation for 6 years as SVP finance to oversee their growth and international expansion, including moving to Philadelphia to oversee the setup and delivery of their US facing service. Qualifying as an accountant with KPMG UK, and having spent one year in the German and two years in the Swedish respective KPMG organisations, Phil then joined Royal Dutch Shell as a financial controller where he spent two years prior to joining Kambi Group plc.
Julian Palmer, Executive Vice President of Engineering, is responsible for Corero’s worldwide product development and research team. Palmer brings over 25 years of engineering leadership and product development across the network security, storage, and operating systems industries. Palmer has a proven track record of developing product and engineering strategy, and successfully leading multi-site R&D organizations to success.
Prior to joining Corero, Palmer was a Distinguished Technologist and Senior Product Manager within HP Enterprise Security Products and HP Networking divisions. Within HP TippingPoint, Palmer was instrumental in developing both product and engineering strategy, and led various significant new product introduction projects in the next generation firewall, intrusion prevention and networking spaces. Palmer has also held senior roles within 3Com Corporation, Adaptec, and Digital Equipment. Palmer has a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Edinburgh University, United Kingdom.
In his role as Executive Vice President, Operations and Customer Services John assures Corero outperforms its competition in terms of quality, service level agreement (manufacturing) and cost of goods. John has been providing substantial operational value to the company’s business for over 10 years, continuously improving value to the customer through streamlining corporate processes, innovating services, and focusing on their needs. John’s quiet leadership style and passion for learning has resulted in 25 years of creative problem-solving experience in many business areas, including security services, professional services, customer relationships, supply chain management, manufacturing, regulatory compliance, quality assurance, sales management, product marketing, product development, engineering, and employee career development.
Prior to joining the company, John was VP of Operations for Top Layer Networks who was acquired by Corero Network Security where his career progressed from an engineer to Vice President of Operations. Prior to Top Layer, John was a senior consultant, delivering product design consulting services for Bleck Design Group to industries ranging from consumer products, telecommunication equipment and medical surgical products. He also held a position as a mechanical engineer for Bose Corp where he learned that value of long-term customer focused thinking. He holds a BSME from Boston University and MBA from Babson College with a focus on managing technology-intensive enterprise.
Sean Newman is VP Product Management, responsible for Corero’s product strategy. Sean brings over 25 years of experience in the security and networking industry, to guide Corero’s growing leadership in the real-time DDoS protection market.
Prior to joining Corero, Sean’s previous roles include network security Global Product Manager for Cisco, who he joined as part of their acquisition of cyber-security vendor Sourcefire, where he was Security Evangelist and Field Product Manager for EMEA. Prior to that he was Senior Product Manager for endpoint and network security vendor Sophos, after having spent more than 12 years as an Engineer, Engineering Manager and then Senior Product Manager for network infrastructure manufacturer 3Com.
