New Super College Chooses Corero Resource EMS

22nd January 2009

When South Staffordshire College launched officially in January 2009 it already had over 20,000 students, 1,000 staff and a turnover in excess of £30m.  This new Super College has chosen Corero’s Resource Education Management System (EMS) to handle all its substantial management requirements.

South Staffordshire College has been formed from the merger of three local colleges - Cannock Chase Technical College, Tamworth & Lichfield College, which has two main campuses; and Rodbaston College, which specialises in skills for land-based and construction industries – to create a world-class college that is more flexible and responsive to meet the needs of local learners and employers and thrive in an increasingly competitive environment.

Phil Brockhurst, Director of MIS and IT Services, South Staffordshire College explains their choice of system:  “We selected Corero’s system primarily because it gives you everything you need, such as web based Timetabling, on-line Tutor Portal, Employer Responsive capability and ILR all in one package, minimising the number of non-integrated or semi-integrated systems we have to maintain.  It also represents good value for money.

“In particular, the new web-based elements are going to make our implementation across multiple campuses following the merger just that little bit easier with no client software to keep up to date.”

Bernard Snowe, Corero’s Business Systems Managing Director says: “Colleges are under increasing pressure to improve efficiency, be more competitive and increasingly engage with local employers to provide them with the particular skills they need to develop their own businesses. South Staffordshire is a clear example of what is happening across many areas of the UK where the government are encouraging mergers and creating ‘super’ colleges in order to maximise their impact on an area and in turn increase their efficiency and competitiveness. Resource EMS has the power, range and flexibility to make the amalgamation of several colleges’ systems as painless as possible and provide the new super colleges with the highest level of management support available today.”

The new Super College will be migrating all of the existing MIS databases on to a single Corero Resource EMS platform, servicing the needs of the new multi-site South Staffordshire College.

Notes for editors:

Resource EMS, our new Learner Management platform manages the students, tutors and processes within Further Education by electronically capturing the information required throughout the 'learning lifecycle', by satisfying Government reporting requirements and, most importantly, by helping to secure the funding upon which Colleges depend.
